Adelina Baca

October 24, 1933 — December 3, 2016

Adelina C. Baca, age 83, was lifted from this world on Saturday, December 3, 2016 while surrounded by her loving family.  Adelina was born in Guadalupe, New Mexico where she lived until the age of eight.  Her family then moved to Bernalillo where she attended and graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School.  Adelina married Max S. Chavez in 1955 and raised their five daughters until his death in 1977.  Adelina then met Fermin Baca and remarried in 1980.
Adelina loved the ranch life running cattle, farming, and caring for her family.  Amidst all this, Adelina’s career included working at Lovato’s Drug Store, El Charro Café and her most beloved job at Bernalillo Head Start where she taught pre-school children.  Adelina was a strong, loving woman who was a leader and beautiful example of human compassion and kindness. A rock to her family she leaves behind a legacy of love and humility beyond words.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eduardo and Lena Valdez; her first husband, Max S. Chavez; her sister, Mary Arriola; and three grandchildren, Shawntae Chavez, Crystal Nicole Jojola and Mario James Baca.

Adelina is survived by her loving husband, Fermin Baca; her children, Loretta Apodaca (Anthony), Patricia Chavez (Bill Mast), Annabell Silva, Glenda Griego-Chavez (Linda), Carla Sanchez (Patrick), Kathy Veloz (David), Paul Baca (Barbara), Becky Gulas, (Tommy), Albert Baca (Judith), Rita Jaramillo, Delma Baca, Beatrice Jojola (Marty); her precious grandchildren, Amanda, Max, Reina, Sierra, Mandy, Marissa, Karl, Jonni, Patrick Jr., Michael, Chris, James, Jacob, Jarod, Joshua, Jesse, Heather, Jason, Alisha, Alan, Danielle, Jamie, Brianna, Angelo, Jeremey, Dustin; and her many great-grandchildren.  Adelina is also survived by her loving sisters, Frances Valdez, Lillie Herrera, Margaret Mora, and Gloria Mora and numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Our family would like to thank Adelina’s sisters for their help in caring for her in the months prior to her passing and a special thank you to her granddaughter Jonni Chavez-Mast for her devoted help in caring for her grandma in her final days.
