Barbara M. Otero, age 79, beloved wife of 62 years to Ruben, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, November 14, 2016, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tajique, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. Prior to retiring Barbara worked for Sandia Ranch and the Good Shepherd manor for 30 years as a Nurse's aid. Barbara loved her family deeply and they always came first. Some of her hobbies and interests include crocheting, cooking, playing bingo, walking, dancing, games and reading books with her grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed traveling, to Hawaii, Florida, California, Nevada, and other places; she also served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang with the Church choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernardo Maldonado and Anita Otero; a daughter, Loretta Garcia; two grandsons, Michael D. Garcia and Joshua R. Otero; sister, Mary Otero; brothers, Odelio and Estolano Maldonado.
Barbara is survived by husband, Ruben Otero; her children, Ruby Re (Dan Garcia), Viola Chavez and husband Mike, Raymond Otero, Katy Carabajal and husband Bobby, Sharon Lucero and husband Robert; her precious grandchildren, Nicole, Gabriello, Martin, Monica, Evangalene, Lukas, Jacob, Arlene, Roberto, Jason, and Domonique; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barbara will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those whose lives she touched.
A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Urn Bearers will be Gabriello Re, Martin Garcia, Joseph Romero Jr., Lukas Vigil, Jacob Vigil, Roberto Carabajal, and Jason Lucero.
