Beatrice “Betty” Duran
October 15, 1929 - January 19, 2019
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my wife, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend Beatrice Teresa Duran, age 89, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  “Betty”, as she was fondly known to family and friends was born on October 15, 1929 in Albuquerque to the late Santiago and Josefita Sanchez.  In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her son, Herman Duran; siblings, Filomeno Sanchez, Justine Serna, and Ruth Tafoya.

Betty married Romeo Duran on December 27, 1948 and had just celebrated 70 years of marriage.  She was happiest when cooking and baking for her family, and preparing her annual Christmas tamales, biscochitos, and meat empanadas.  When her children married and left home, she applied for a job as a baker with the Albuquerque Public Schools so she could continue to do the thing she loved most - feeding the children.  Betty was a member of the Catholic church.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Romeo; her son, Florentino and his wife Sheryl, her son, William and his wife Vickie; her daughter, Lucille and her husband Larry; her much loved great-grandson Ceasar Verdugo; and her faithful four-legged companion Ginger.  Betty is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be recited Friday morning, January 25, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St., NW, Albuquerque, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.  Serving as Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren Micheal Duran, Marcus Duran, Michael Verdugo, Nathan Duran, Steven Duran, and Robert Duran.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ceasar Verdugo, Dominic Ortiz, Larry Verdugo, and Mark Verdugo.
