Brian Christopher Gallegos, age 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center.
Brian was a 1978 graduate of Rio Grande High School. Brian served in the US Army from 1979-1984. He was a long time employee at the UNM Center for Developmental Disabilities. Brian was a very outgoing, friendly, and giving person. He was very generous and compassionate. He opened his heart to all. He loved to cook for family and friends. He was passionate about his red chili ristras and carne adovada. One of his greatest joys was celebrating life with friends and family. Brian was an avid fisherman, loved to go camping and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Brian and Leon were inseparable and together brought love and laughter to everyone they met. As dedicated and passionate caregivers who went above and beyond in caring for his mother, they provided his mother with a quality of life fit for a queen.
Brian is preceded in death by his father, Alfred C. Gallegos; his sister, Allene Wright; niece, Valerie Upshir; nephews, Sean Sanchez, Dennis Rodriguez, and many close friends. He is survived by his loving husband of 23 years, Leon Vigil; his mother, Bertha Gallegos; brothers, Gary Gallegos and wife Jane, Mark Gallegos and wife Jeanie, Alfred Gallegos and wife Marian, Tommy Gallegos and wife Diane; sisters, Kathleen Sobelman and husband Howard, Carol Gallegos, Chrisie Taylor and husband Alex; mother-in-law, Fidi Vigil; and many nieces, nephews and an untold number of family and friends. He is also survived by step-daughters, Frances Calle and Marie LaMar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 27, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Rd., SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105. Inurnment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Urn Bearers will be Alfred Gallegos, Tommy Gallegos, Marcus Gallegos, Daniel Taylor, Alex Taylor, and Carlo Pettine. Honorary Bearers will be Gary Gallegos, Mark Gallegos, Nicholas Gallegos, Brian Gallegos, Alex-James Taylor, Tomas Baca, Eric Siniff, and Ted Mascarenas.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center who treated Brian with kindness, dignity and respect.
