Clifford Dale Fitzsimmons

October 21, 1944 — January 5, 2025

Clifford Dale Fitzsimmons, a man whose legacy will live on in our hearts and memories, passed away at the age of 80. Born on October 21, 1944, to Charles and Leora Fitzsimmons in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cliff’s early life was shaped by both challenge and determination. After the loss of his father, Cliff didn’t hesitate to step up and help provide for his family, taking a job pumping gas at a local station. From that moment, he established the strong work ethic that became his hallmark—one that would carry him through a life of hard work, dedication, and love.

In 1964, Cliff married the love of his life, Linda K. Otto. Together, they had five children: Kenneth, Loren, Kelly, Karl, and Kevin. Cliff and Linda’s bond was a true partnership. He always spoke of her as his best friend, the mother of his children, and the constant source of support in his life. Their love and commitment to each other were evident in everything he did.

Cliff’s life took him to many places—living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nebraska, Texas, and finally Bernalillo, New Mexico, where he found his home. His work was as diverse as the places he lived. From pumping gas to driving log trucks, from serving as a volunteer EMT to traveling the country in the famous old Pete truck, Cliff did it all. He didn’t shy away from hard work. But despite his busy schedule, he always found time for his hobbies. Whether it was woodworking or creating custom handmade pieces like cedar chests, benches, cabinets, or even log necklaces, he showed us that there was no task too small or too big when it came to lending a helping hand.

Cliff was a man of routine. He could always be found enjoying a quiet breakfast, taking a nap on the couch, and spending his Saturdays watching classic country on PBS. Sundays were sacred, reserved for church. As we think of Cliff today, it’s easy to imagine him tinkering with a project, always finding something to do, even as his pace slowed in his later years.

He had a quiet way of showing his love, but he also had a great sense of humor. His jokes, like the one about unscrewing your belly button to make your butt fall off or asking if you needed money for the rest of those jeans, could always make you laugh. And let’s not forget his sweet tooth. Whether it was pies, apple fritters, Nutter Butters, or his beloved banana splits, Cliff knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. But what stands out most is the way he ended every visit. No matter the occasion, every time you left, he’d say, “Glad you got to see me.” Those words will stay with us forever.

Cliff was a man who endured hardships with grace and perseverance. He showed us all how to carry life’s challenges with pride. He never let difficulties defeat him. If anything, he taught us that the greatest strength is in love—in loving harder than we hold onto grudges and in finding joy in the everyday moments. His kindness, his wisdom, his humor, and his dedication will forever be a part of who we are.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable 80 years that he was here with us. We take comfort knowing that his lessons, his love, and his spirit will continue to guide us.

Cliff was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Fitzsimmons; sons Loren and Karl; granddaughters Kimberly, Amanda and Mallory; brothers Loren and Roger; sister Lillian; and his parents, Leora and Charles Fitzsimmons, as well as many other beloved family members.

Cliff is survived by his son Kenny (Kittie), their two sons and six grandchildren; his daughter Kelly and her two children and seven grandchildren; his son Kevin (Corrie), their two daughters and five grandchildren; and his sister Cheryl.

As we bid him farewell today, we remember his final words to all of us: “Glad you got to see me.”

Cliff, we love you, and we will see you again.
