Daniel Shawn Gonzales Jr.

Daniel Shawn Gonzales Sr., born on April 3, 1974, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, left this world on April 9, 2025. A beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Daniel was a man of many talents and an unmatched passion for life.

Daniel dedicated his career to construction, proudly working as a Heavy Equipment Operator, with a special fondness for his backhoe. His hands sculpted the landscapes around him, and yet it was his heart that left the most indelible mark on those who knew him. He graduated from Valley High School in 1993, marking the beginning of a journey filled with hard work and cherished relationships.

Music was the pulse of Daniel’s spirit. From a young boy, he developed a profound love for melodies, priding himself on knowing every song. He often referred to himself as an “old skool genius,” a moniker that encapsulated both his musical prowess and his playful personality. Daniel was a storyteller at heart; he regaled friends and family with tales infused with humor and warmth, resonating with joy and nostalgia.

His greatest pride was his family, particularly his grandchildren, to whom his heart and soul belonged. Daniel reveled in attending their various activities, finding immense joy in their laughter and accomplishments. He delighted in their presence, creating a tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Suzanne Gonzales, who stood beside him through all of life's ups and downs. He leaves behind his mother Eva Gonzales, father Raymond Gonzales Sr., and stepmother Sylvia Gonzales. Sons, Daniel Gonzales Jr. and Santiago Chavez, and his daughter, Angel Cordova. His devotion extended to his stepdaughters, Joanna Baca, Juliana Santillanes, and Sasha Baca. Daniel was a proud brother to Ray Gonzales Jr. and Sandra Jordan, each sharing a bond that mirrored the loyalty and love he fostered throughout his life.

His memory will live on through his five grandsons, Johnny Ray Ayala, Santiago Gallegos, Joshua Torrez, Leon Santillanes, and Lawrence Santillanes, along with his three granddaughters, Amyaluv Cordova, Uriah Cordova, and Jaylah Torrez. Each of them carries a piece of him forward, their lives illuminated by his love and guidance.

Daniel is predeceased by his grandparents, John and Ruth Gonzales, who welcomed him home with open arms. As we remember Daniel Shawn Gonzales Sr., we celebrate a life marked by hard work, an infectious love for music, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He may have left this earthly realm, but his legacy will echo through the laughter and love of his cherished family members for generations to come.
