Daniel Romero

Daniel Romero, age 63, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 3, 2019, while surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, where he built his career as a boxing trainer and was the head coach for the Olympic Team from 1982 to 1992.  Daniel was entered to the NM Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016; and succeeded to have six World Boxing Champions.  Daniel enjoyed cars, and wood craving, but best of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Maria Romero; granddaughter, Mia Alvarado; two brothers, Richard Romero and Henry "Rick" Chavez.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elena  Romero; his children, Daniel "Danny" Romero and wife Michelle, Alice Sikkink and husband Adam; his precious grandchildren, Danimarie, Amaya, Daniel "Danny boy", Kymberly; and his great-granddaughter, Diana.  Also surviving are his brothers, Raymond Romero and wife Anna, Joe Romero; and many loving relatives and friends.  Daniel will be greatly missed by his loving family and those whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 4th St. NW, Albuquerque, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Therese Church.  Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Casket Bearers will be Adam Sikkink, Marcos Alvarado, Carlos Chavez, Alexander Perez, Jamie Bustamante, and Steve Hindi.  Honorary Bearers will be Hector Munoz, Robert Dowler, Michael Gerhardt, and Ceaser Serrano.
