Dr. Lorenzo Gonzales, PhD was born on November 8, 1948 in Clovis, NM. Lorenzo passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2023.
Lorenzo grew up in Vaughn, NM as the oldest of five siblings, Maria (Baba), Yolanda (Yoli), Santiago (Jimmy) and Yvonne. Lorenzo moved to Cuba, NM in 1973 with the intention of only staying for two years. In Cuba he met Vangie, who became his wife of 46 years. He was a teacher for Cuba Independent schools for 27 years where he retired. He then went on to teach at Northern New Mexico Collage for the next 2 years. He then went to work for Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Community Outreach Specialist in Math Education, where he worked for the last 22 years. Lorenzo had a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. He worked and learned up to his very last days. He was in Santa Barbera at a conference, the week before his passing. Where he learned about the brain and was eager to share his newfound knowledge with his colleagues and teachers.
He was a loving husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Uncle. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Vangie Gonzales, his son Lorenzo and wife Michelle Gonzales, his daughter Victoria and husband Manuel Moreno. Grandchildren – Adrianna, Lorena Gonzales, Adrian, Andres, Amanda, Antonio Moreno, Ashli Hampton, Madyson, Carter Gray and Great Grandchildren – James Hampton, Amaris Trujillo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his, Father Ricardo Gonzales and Mother Genevieve Gonzales.
