Gabriel Chavez Obituary
Gabriel “Gabe” Chavez, 90, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on January 22, 2024. Gabe, son of Melcor and Concepcion Chavez, was born on October 16, 1933, in Torreon, New Mexico. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a respected member of the community.
Gabe is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Chavez, and their children: Ronald Chavez (Kathy Barela), Brenda Bobinsky (Steve), Debbie Arnold (Robert), and Faviola Chavez. He was also a cherished grandfather to Adam Chavez (Monica), Dominick Chavez, Ronald Chavez Jr., Chantal Butler (Justin), Gabrielle Bobinsky, Andrelle Bobinsky, Joelle Bobinsky, and Bailey Conroy (Joe), brothers; Melcor Chavez Jr., Gilbert Chavez (Rachel), Cecil Chavez (Emma) sisters; Eulalia Gutierrez, Peggy Pohl (Herman), Sylvia Castillo (Wilfred). Gabe had a very close bond with his many nephews and nieces.
Gabe was preceded in death by parents, Melcor and Concepcion Chavez; brothers, Feliciano Chavez, Jose Chavez, Elfego Chavez, Sal Chavez; sisters, Juanita Otero, Rosita Trujillo, Candelaria Garcia and Rita Garcia.
Gabe was a lifelong rancher and cowboy who found joy in working with animals and the land. He retired from Albuquerque Public Schools as a landscaper. He had a deep passion for hunting and fishing, which allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories and many stories to share.
Gabe was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith.
Pallbearers will be Adam Chavez, Dominick Chavez, Ronald Chavez Jr., Norbert Chavez, Steve Garcia, Elmer Otero, Virgil Otero, and Andy Chavez
Gabe’s favorite color was green, feel free to wear this color for the services.
The Chavez family extends their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of New Mexico with Nurse Veronica and Caregiver Dina, as well as Daniels Mortuary Alameda for their dignified and caring service during this time.
In remembrance of Gabriel Chavez, a man of integrity and warmth, the family welcomes you to honor his memory in a gathering of faith and love. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
