Johnny John Scar Martinez, age 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 18, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. Johnny graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1968. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Viet Nam era from 1969 to 1971, who served his country in Korea. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5890. He was a great dancer and was always joking. Johnny will fondly be remember as a man with a big heart who loved, cared and accepted everyone who touched his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edwina Martinez; and a nephew, Patrick Raya.
Johnny is survived by his best friend of 14 years; and loving wife of 2 years, Yolanda Giron Martinez; his children, John Boy (Angela) Martinez, Christina Red Scarito, Melissa Hernandez; his father, Medardo Martinez; brother, Julian (Diana); sisters, Carmen (Tony), Sarah (Richard); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives and a host of friends. Johnny will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Lovelace Heart Hospital; Dr. Bieniarz, Dr. Peralta, Dr. Mansfield, Dr. Jeffrey Mazer, Dr. Tanner, Jodi Masters CNP; Nurses, David, Ovid, Angela, Kyle and the Respiratory Staff for the care and kindness given to Johnny and his family.
A Rosary was recited by Aunt Lita Pino Friday, December 28, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 4th St., NW, Albuquerque, where the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Committal Services and Inurnment will take place Friday, June 28, 2019 at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Urn Bearers will be John boy Martinez, Antonio Raya, Pete Cordova, David Benavidez, and Gerald Ortega.
