Josephine (Josie) Adele Montano Alderete, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 31, 2016. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader, amateur New Mexico historian, Crusillista, a graceful dancer, and a Harwood Girls' School graduate. Josie was born on August 7, 1926 in Albuquerque, and raised in El Llanito and Martineztown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Nora Montano; her husband of 54 years, Melquiades (Markie) Alderete; and her infant sister, Victoria.
Josie and Markie leave behind a legacy of a large family. She had seven sons and three daughters. Her family includes, Anthony and wife Mary, Charlie and wife Lucia, Joseph and wife Betty, Raymond and wife Cathy, Tommy and wife Marie, Therese, Kathy and husband Norberto, Philip and wife Jeanette, Florence and husband Michael, and Steven. She had eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Words cannot express how much she will be missed and how blessed her family was to have her in their lives.
A Rosary will be recited Sunday, November 6, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW. Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. also at the Church. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
