Juanito Garcia

Juanito Garcia, 100, passed away on October 6, 2019 at his daughter Roberta and Clarence's home, while surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Vallecitos, NM on October 2, 1919, the son of Simon and Christina Garcia.

Juanito married Deluvina Flores on December 27, 1944; last year they celebrated 75 years of marriage. As a life-long resident of Ponderosa, NM they raised eight children in a loving catholic home. Juanito served in the US Army where he was honorably discharged and awarded commendations, including two Purple Hearts. After recovering from his wounds, he was employed at and retired from Caldwell Lumber Company as a Certified Wood Grader. Every year he took great pride in planting and harvesting his giant garden as well as sharing fresh vegetables with his family. In addition, he tied dozens of chile ristras for each of his children. Juanito will be most remembered as a loving father, nights of playing his violin and guitar, his strong work ethic and determination, along with being the strength and foundation for his family, friends and his community.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Deluvina Garcia; daughter, Diane Jaramillo and her husband, Thomas; grandsons, Thomas Jaramillo Jr. and Joseph Garcia; son-in-law Pete Martinez; and many brothers and sisters.
Juanito is survived by his seven children, Velma Chavez, Tino Garcia and Carmen, Virginia Montano and husband Andy, Cecilia Martinez; Joe Garcia and wife Rosemary, Roberta Gutierrez and husband Clarence, Albert Garcia and wife Patricia; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his sister, Aurora Gonzales and husband Frank; sisters-in-law, Celsa Morales, Angie Harrison and husband Albert; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.  Juan will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. NW, in Albuquerque.  Interment will follow at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Chris Garcia, Marty Chavez, Johnny Garcia, Vincent Trujillo, Chris Gutierrez, and Joseph Gutierrez.  Honorary Bearers will be David Trujillo Jr., Jonathan Garcia, JD Garcia, Mike Noriega, Orlen Chavez, Henry Garcia, Christopher Gutierrez Jr., Joseph Garcia Jr., and Fred Maestas.
