Lauretta Marie Olson, age 93 passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, March 11, 2015, at home surrounded by her loving family. Lauretta was born March 4, 1922 to Magdalena Kaminski Michels and John Michels in Chicago, IL. Lauretta grew up in Chicago, IL where she attended Parochial Schools and learned to speak and write Polish fluently. Married in 1943, the family moved west, settling in Albuquerque, NM in 1947. She retired from Presbyterian Heath Center in 1984. She enjoyed her family, made Holidays special, especially Christmas Eve in her home. She was a talented seamstress, designing many quilts for family and friends. Her needle work was enjoyed by many; she was a great cook and an avid gardener. Lauretta was known for her kindness and compassion. She had a way of making everyone feel special. She will be missed but, we are comforted knowing she is with our Lord.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Chester B. Olson Sr.(1981); her parents; siblings, Lee Ann Harvey and Lt. Col. Daniel L. Michels; and her son, Chester B. Olson Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Sandi Hultgren and husband Norman, Diane Baker and husband David, Barbara Spitz and husband Terry; grandchildren, Chad Luna, Nicole Olson, Jeff Terheggen, Holly Smith and husband Karl, Tamara Salazar and husband Ben, Jennifer West and husband Andrew, Greg Spitz and wife Tommie, and Mitchel Olson; great- grandchildren, Breanne and Kassidy Olson, Courtney Johnson, Ryan, Tori, and JD Terheggen, Gavin and Addison Spitz, Sarah and Lucas West, and Izaac and Ava Salazar; one great-great-grandchild, Zae Olson; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, God children, extended family and friends.
The family will be receiving family and friends Monday, March 16, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Service of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Chad Luna, Ben Salazar, Andrew West, Greg Spitz, Karl Smith, and Mark Howell.
