Leo Ruelas, age 66, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM. Leo was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served his country during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #69, #13 and #100; and he retired from the Job Corp of Albuquerque. Leo enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his precious grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Theodorita Ruelas; sister, Tina Ruelas; brother, Phillip "Junior" Ruelas. Leo is survived by his loving children, James Ruelas and wife Cecelia, and Melissa Ruelas-Garcia; his precious grandchildren, Marissa, Alexis, Matthew, Andrew, and Lucas; and special friend, Laura Galindro. Also surviving are his siblings, Simon Ruelas, Emily Segura and husband Felix "Horacio", Rita Montoya and husband Louie; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Leo will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.
A Rosary will be recited Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, followed by the Service of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Andrew Ruelas, Matthew Garcia, Ruben Bustamante, Joshua Segura, Eugene Segura, Jr., and Joseph Montoya. Honorary Bearers will be Lucas Ruelas, Jerry Mondragon, and Alexis Garcia.
