Manuel Garcia, age 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2015, from complications of heart and lung illnesses.
Manuel Garcia was born in the Pojoaque area to Vicente and Eliza Garcia. Immediately following his high school graduation, Manuel joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 21 years of service. After his retirement, Manuel worked for Ross Aviation under a government contract for an additional 22 years.
Manuel possessed an amazing faith and love for God, his family and his country. A kind man who lived life to its fullest, Manuel was a proud U.S. Military Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 69, VFW, and DAV. An avid sports fan, Manuel not only loved being a sports spectator, but he also coached a large number of children in his younger years. In addition, Manual enjoyed fishing, traveling and watching horse racing. But Manuel’s greatest pleasure in life was his grandchildren. He took particular delight in his youngest grandchildren, Brianna and Manuel III. Prior to his illness, Manuel seized every opportunity to watch Brianna and Manuel III participate in sports and enjoyed sharing their successes and accomplishments with friends and family. Manuel was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Maria Laura; son, Michael Glen Garcia; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Garcia; his parents Vicente and Eliza Garcia; sisters, Frances Nodel, Isabel Cordova, Eulalia Cordova, Bernie Gonzales; and two brothers, Florentino and Nicholas Garcia. Manuel is survived by his wife of 12 years, Diolanda (Dee); son, Manuel, Jr. (Manny); sister, Orlinda Williams; two stepdaughters, Nanette Luker and Mary Lee Austin; and many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited Friday, October 23, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd., NW, in Albuquerque, a the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Committal Services will be Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
