Mario M. Gonzales, age 62, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 12, 2020, while surround by his loving family.
Mario was born in Roswell, NM and was a resident of Rio Rancho, NM. Mario graduated in 1977 from Santa Fe High School, then joined the United States Army. He retired from the Santa Fe County after 28 years of service. Mario served as past AFSCME Union President, on the County Employee Benefits Committee; and was an active member of his Catholic Church Ministries. Some of his interests and hobbies were family gatherings, watching the grandkids, movies, handyman, bicycling, outdoor activities, and his Church ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Chelo Gonzales; nephew, Michael Lovato; and niece, Stephanie Gonzales. Mario is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Suzette Gonzales; his wonderful children, Dario Gonzales, Annica Gonzales (Sean Velarde); his precious grandchildren, Mariah, Adrianna, and Josiah Velarde. Also surviving are his siblings, Michael Gonzales and wife Olyvia, Carmen, Nancy and Ruben Gonzales; seven Godsons; his mother-in-law, Evangeline Tapia; and other numerous relatives and friends. Mario will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.
A Rosary will be recited Monday, August 31, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Church of Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd., NE, Rio Rancho, NM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Masks are required. Due to the Covid-19 Virus, there will not be a reception.
