Nena Montoya, born May 26, 1938, a life-long resident of Bernalillo, was called home to our Lord on February 2, 2021. Nena is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Orlando Montoya of 48 years, parents, Vicente and Maria Montoya, siblings, Margarito Montoya, Rita Sisneros and Lala Dominguez, brother-in-law Sabino Montoya, and Son-In-Law, Mario Valencia Sr. She is survived by her six children, Chris Montoya and wife Celia, Tina Valencia, Rebecca Romero and husband Louie, Rosemary Montoya and Paul Nguyen, Vince Montoya and wife Alice and Lisa Wassmann and husband Timothy; her siblings, Orlando Montoya and wife Agnes, Felix Montoya and wife Nora, Genevieve Castillo and husband Ernest and Arthur Montoya and wife Joan and Sister-In-Law Lugardita Montoya; she was also Nana to 11 grandchildren, Mario Jr., Jason, Eric, Meghan, JoAnna, Desirae, Brian, Lann, MaiLynn, Jett, and Lauren; 15 great-grandchildren, KayLana, Cheyenne, McKenna, Scarlett, Austin, Logan, Sophia, Damya, Ezekiel, Bella Rae, Ruby, Nicco, Marley, Isaac and Mateo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Nena was born in the “Las Cocinitas” area in Bernalillo, was raised and continued to live in the “Bosque” for the remainder of her life. She attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Bernalillo and was also a life-long parishioner of Our Lady Sorrows Parrish. Nena’s faith in God was undoubting and she, like most family matriarchs, was her families’ key prayer point-person. Bernalillo was so dear to Nena, especially the Bosque, where she had a deep-rooted appreciation for the land. Nena loved Spanish music and was an exceptional dancer. Her home was always filled with music, laughter and love. Nena was a remarkable and beloved woman and her legacy will live on forever. “I love you more”.
A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be recited on Monday, February 8, 2021, at 10:00am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parrish in Bernalillo, New Mexico. Interment will immediately follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mario Valencia Jr., Jason Stavros, Eric Valencia, Brian Montoya, Timothy Wassmann, Louie Romero, Pete Griego and Thomas Montoya; Honorary Pallbearers are Jett Morales, Ezekiel Austin, Logan Valencia, Nicco Montoya, Isaac Lopez, Mateo Lopez, and Austin Montoya.
