Pete L. Padilla Sr. age 79, was called to be with our Lord God and Savior on Sunday morning. , August 28, 2016. He was born in La Cienega, NM on September 20, 1938, to Ciprano and Lupita (Ortiz) Padilla.
Pete was born in La Cienega, NM on September 20, 1938. He was raised along with his brothers and sisters in Cerillos, NM. He moved to Bernalillo in 1953 where he remained until his passing. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the Navy and became a boiler man. He was honorably discharged at the age of 22 and immediately began working at the University of New Mexico as a Plumbers Apprentice. Through hard work and determination he climbed the workplace ladder to become a plumber, the lead man/foreman, supervisor and eventually becoming the manager of the entire plumbing, electrical and mechanical maintenance department of UNM. He retired from UNM after 37 years of dedicated service.
After his retirement, Pete enjoyed traveling with our Mom to places like Spain, Italy, Guam and China. He spent countless days working at home, he always kept busy. He enjoyed walking at the mall with our Mom and spent a lot of time with his friends Bob and Leoroy. He was a well known person to ask about many peoples family’s history. He was also very involved with the Mariaches Spectacular where he volunteered his time for over 20 years. And on any given Sunday, he could be found enjoying breakfast, making jokes and catching old friends at Casa de Benavidez. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ciprano and Lupita Padilla; brother Cilio and wife Melba Padilla; parents-in-law Cirilio and Sophia Garcia; brothers-in-law Gilbert and Cirilio Garcia, Leo and wife Lilian Garcia; sister-in-law Francis Padilla; nephews Patrick Padilla, Danny Pacheco, Michael Sandoval, Dennis Padilla; and Grandson-in-law Ryan Faroane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Padilla; daughter, Nancy Gallegos; son Pete Lawrence Padilla Jr. and wife Roberta, Andrew Padilla, Brian Padilla and wife Bernadette, Gilbert Garcia and wife Kitty, Leopoldo Garcia; grandchildren, Lalo Gallegos, Angelica Martinez and husband Kenneth, Francesca Duran and husband Miguel, Shyanne Padilla and partner Julio Medina, Charles Padilla, Ashley Faroane and partner Justin Apodaca, Rian Padilla and fiancé Lyndsey Urrea, Gabriel Garcia and Lilly Garcia; great-grandchildren Lorenzo Martinez, Jerimiah, Josiah and Serena Medina, Bryson Duran and his little partner Elias Faroane; 4 sisters and husbands; 6 brothers and wives, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
A very special thanks to the first responders from the Sandoval County Sheriff’s office, paramedic units and also to Lee Yardman; to Father Clarence, Father Vu and Father Bill for being there for our family at this time of need; and to all friends and family that have come to comfort us and our Mother.
A Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo on Wednesday, September 7, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a eulogy by Roberta Padilla. Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. A reception will follow at the home of Pete Padilla Jr, 549 Avenida Encantada in Bernalillo.
Honorary Pallbearers are his most valued possessions, his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Dad, you will be forever loved and missed. We will continue your legacy of hard work and family dedication.
