Ray D. Chavez, Sr., age 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was embraced by the Lord Monday, January 8, 2018 and taken to his heavenly home. He was born in Duran, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque, where he graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1963; and retired from the Albuquerque Police Dept. after 24 years of service. Ray received his Master's Degree in Public Administration, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Ray was an entrepreneur for 24 years, as the owner and operator of Pro Lube Oil on San Mateo and Zuni. Ray's hobbies and interests were history, reading, building, and running marathons.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Ashe Chavez; his wonderful children, Rosita Marquez and husband Victor, Kristine Chavez, Ray D. Chavez, Jr. and Alexis Rindone; his precious grandchildren, Luke, Aitana Marquez, and Adam Ray Chavez. Also surviving are his brother, Alfredo Chavez and wife Barbara; his sister, Alice Anaya and husband Abel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ray will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth St. NW, Albuquerque, where a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 a.m. and followed by Mass at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro NE. Casket Bearers will be Ray D. Chavez Jr., Victor Marquez, Luke Marquez, Simon Ashe, Alfredo Chavez, III, and Emil Ashe. Honorary Bearer will be Dennis Paiz.
