Robert Connick

Robert “Blondie” Connick, Sr.  Born February 18, 1928 in Niobrara, NE, went home to be with the Lord at 88 years of age on December 15, 2016.  He graduated from Niobrara high School in 1945 and then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He served for eight years, and traveled to Japan, Iceland, Greenland, and was part of the Antarctic Expedition.  Robert received the Nights of the Blue Nose award for his military service.  It was while he was in the Air Force that he came to Albuquerque, NM and met the love of his life, Julia Martinez.  They celebrated 61 years of marriage together and had six children.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling with his wife.  Carpentry was his hobby.  Robert was a kind-hearted, generous beyond measure, gentleman who loved his family and was loved by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Freda Connick; son, Alfred Connick; brothers, Harold and Darold Connick; and sister, Marguerite Jenson.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Julia Connick; his children, Robert Connick, Jr. and wife Tina, Patricia Gonzales and husband Frank, Howard Connick and wife Daphne, Richard Connick and wife Norma, and Michael Connick and wife Ruth;  daughter-in-law, Missy Ortega-Connick; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.  Robert will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those whose lives he touched.

Visitations will be Monday, December 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 Fourth St., NW, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.  Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. also at the Church.  Interment will follow at San Carlos Cemetery.  Casket Bearers will be Robert Connick, Jr., Michael Connick, Isaiah Connick, Joshua Connick, Carlos Contreras, and Martin Saiz.  Honorary Bearers will be Howard Connick, Richard Connick, and Adam Myers.
