Samuel Richard Olivas was born on November 8, 1942 and passed on April 23, 2023. He passed peacefully in his home after his courageous battle with cancer.
Sam was born in Albuquerque and raised by his parents, Fidencio and Genoveva in Cuba, New Mexico. He was raised with numerous brothers and sisters; he is survived by Ray Olivas, Lito Casaus, and Virginia Lovato. Sam spent his early years serving in the Army National Guard from 1964-1970.
Sam loved playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle, and fishing. He spent hours on wood working and painting. His greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends.
At age 25, he met and fell in love with his wife of 52 years, Mary in Stanley, North Dakota. They raised two sons and two daughters in Cuba, New Mexico. He leaves behind beloved children Fabian, Jeremy and his wife Joyce, Laura and Linda. His cherished grandchildren; Phelisha and her wife Elizavet, Stevana, Dakota, Marcos, Terrence, and Leon.
A Rosary will be held at Daniels Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, May 3rd at 7:00 in Albuquerque. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 4th at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cuba at 11:00 with a luncheon following the services. Interment will be held at the Cuba Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William, Martin, Marcos, and Terrence Olivas, James Casaus, and John Wilson.
